John Smart started plying the violin at the age of 6. At age 11, he was awarded a place at Wells Cathedral School where he studied with Patricia Noall and Yfrah Neaman, John was leader of the School Chamber Orchestra in 1986 for the celebratory concert in Wells Cathedral with Yehudi Menuhin followed by a world tour. The Same year he led a string quartet performance in the Purcell Room and for Swedish Radio recordings. After studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Jack Glickman and Detlef Hahn, John went on to work for two years with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, and now works mainly with small chamber orchestras, including the Barn Sinfonietta, the Apollo Chamber Orchestra, the London Concertante. As a member of The European Union Chamber Orchestra he recently toured Panama and Jamaica as well as earlier tours to South America, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
